Hydrogen is not currently a “source” of energy, it is ONLY a means of storage (except if they drill for hydrogen, which we’ve seen talked about an apparently there is a hydrogen well in, what was it, Gabon?)
But generally, when you have to MAKE hydrogen, it is only for energy STORAGE. And it can only return about 25% of the energy input. Therefore, it is BY FAR, the WORST form of energy storage commonly discussed. Also, the latest hydrogen airplane has two (2) side-by-side fuselages: one to hold the hydrogen, the other to hold the people. Or you could have that other scenario that some people thing “sounds great”, hydrogen-powered drones at intervals along the main route, towing the aircraft. Either option is ridiculous on its face. One more example of the INSANITY afflicting people so desperate to “solve global warming”. You’d think, by the time you had a 25% energy return, and had to build essentially an extra airplane attached to the first airplane, just to carry the hydrogen, people would begin to realize it was a wrong path to go down. but no, the insanity prevails at all levels, so such ridiculous stuff gets funded and appears in serious-sounding articles that will read like comedy in the future.
A couple of really impressive side furling devices for launch and land are shown in the video.
Looks like a line snag would still be possible … Nothing that a bit more fairing wouldn’t solve.
Very cool
You are right! that furler looks great! I have been thinking of something on those lines. (no puns intended) Affirming to see some corroboration in the method. What I do wonder about is kites with bladders, how would they be deflated? This problem has been present on my mind of late.
