A long history of “Kitemares” have advanced the engineering of safety features that also vitally apply to specialized AWES. Killing power kites safely when all goes wrong is an essential capability. Kitemares are rarer, but ever more monstrous in potential, as astounding kite performance has expanded possibilities.
AWE R&D is dangerous even at “sport-scale”, which naïve critics overlook. Its not so much “no power” as “too much power” that challenges the kite engineer. Safety is more essential than anything else.
