So we might as well go for as maximally high tech a design as we can
We have the compute nowadays…
Yet we want a solution which is super simples in operation, reliability and robust.
Reckon we can have both and
both arch, array and multi rotor array designs will play symbiotically in the development of new AWES classes. Big confident talk that.
However the design does not have to be done in python by an AI in 4 minutes because so far … So very far from useful
The results are Hilariously non mechanical for now.
OK I could give up and
I considered reading Tea-Leaves for ideas but I found absolute wisdom at a New Years Sing along by decoding the until now unsolved lyrics of Led Zeppelin - What is and What Should Never Be
Honestly - read them - it makes kite work an obvious obsession.
So I continued my normal style of development and
Now with a new concept in mind - I’ll still go straight back to Rhino for design prototyping.
I’m looking for ways to attach kite rotors in arrays to arches
A way of attaching arrays of articulatable carriages of rotors cross axially and maybe also axially onto arch kite lines
Realising this kind of design would allow a whole bunch of arraying options. (Field and airborne)
It’ll take a while for me to get around to publishing some sketches
Maybe when I see them more fully realised there’s going to be an obvious mistake
Anyway
Had an idea for some sketching and a deployment method
The real inspirations for this coming design were Old School family Christmas decorations,
The old style expanding origami garlands and tinsel catenary polar arrays around a central lamp.
I realise this is not much to go on but consider how you might assign carriages of rotors onto the ropes of this field array
If the lines are taught to the ground before launch
you could launch the downwind most set first with rotors x axially deployed on the topside trailing
edge.
How much extra support might the carriage need for alignment of rotors …?
How much extra support can they supply as lifters…?
Which rotors do you cull or relocate to support which loads?
Hope you’re all enjoying AWES design in 2025
Keep Headbanging
and definitely do whatever Led Zeppelin lyrics tell you to
