To make things clearer 3DL in the video is an older North-Sails technology where the sails were laminated. Performances were good, but sails were fragile. Northsails is now using 3Di technology (as in Windy text above) which is “monolithic” and shows better durability and better stiffness/weight.
Here is 3Di patent which has been expired for 2 years apparently. US8506739B2 - Method of producing sails using reinforced, formed fabrics - Google Patents. Patent was not by NorthSails but for exclusive use.
