Two years of development.
Thousands of simulations later.
Maybe we took this kite a bit too far, turning it into a fighter jet and my computer into an air fryer😀.I’m proud of the aerodynamic and structural gains achieved together with Robin van de Putte and Ivan Tamborero de Groot, enabling the kite to fly higher in the window, maximise vertical travel, loop faster, and push structural performance further in the high end. Given the wing’s unconventional shape and profiles, standard aircraft simulation tools become essentially unusable.
So we built our own approach:
• A machine-learning model to rapidly solve viscous aerodynamic performance across airfoils and wind conditions, providing input for a 3D aerodynamic vortex-lattice method
• A parametric structural FEM tool for leading-edge tube configurations
• A bridle force simulation tool, combining on-water validation with force-distribution simulations to precisely balance stability, responsiveness, bar pressure, and steering effort. Optimised across the entire Vulture GEN5 size range.More information → LinkedIn
