Fun fact; adding a fairing close to the kite will often have a bigger impact on drag reduction than cutting the same amount of tether

Alpha is the usual parameter name for angle of attack.

But how will the faired tether be reeled onto the spool of the winch? Maybe both the reeling problem and the weight problem can be solved by making the fairing inflatable. Using dropstich like on a inflatable SUP to hold it’s shape. And then not inflate it until all the cable that should be faired is reeled out.
