Don’t make a separate topic for every shower thought please.
Keep your thoughts to yourself and stop posting uninteresting things that have nothing to do with AWE, like Modvion - Wind Turbines Towers of Wood - Engineering / Manufacturing - AWESystems Forum. @dougselsam has just rightly pointed this out to you, but you thought it best to delete his message when it is the entire topic that should be deleted.

I’ve never seen a girl even peripherally involved with building a wind turbine, except maybe in a suit helping place fiberglass in a blade factory.

Yes of course my post was deleted. Truth is the first thing a censor can’t help themselves from eliminating, so they can go on pretending their fantasy-world is real. Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. While “moderators” pretend to be impartial, their real motivation is not to facilitate a place for facts to be discussed, but for they, themselves to express their limited thoughts, Anything that conflicts with their fantasy-world can then be deleted. They can’t stop themselves, They will rationalize it on the basis of some technicality.

The real question is how we allow ourselves to be 100% ruled by a series of anonymous people, so unsure of themselves that they refuse to even say who they actually are, what their interest actually is, so they can go on for decade saying the stupidest shizzle imaginable and bullying anyone who dares to stand up to their endless, deceptive nonsense, without ever having their stupidity reflect on their actual reputation. Once again, it’s all about covering up the facts, even if the facts are simply how stupid they actually are.
For anyone who has paid any attention, I’ve been the main source of actual, realistic information in the failed wannabe-AWE space, for 18 years now. Example: When I see another group-selfie with a like 24 people, including a bunch of girls, pretending they are starting a successful wind energy company, I flag it as the naive newbies they are, with no idea how to do anything at all, let alone run a lean, effective wind energy company.
Contrast that with the most successful small-wind company in the world, which still has trouble making ends meet, as a relatively small family business with just a few dedicated, experienced, knowledgeable employees. The market for small wind energy systems is very limited since solar got so cheap. Meanwhile the AWE people have never designed, built, run, or even been associated with any real wind energy system in their lives, and just think they are “really smart people”. debunking their stories is like shooting fish in a barrel. It’s like watching lemmings run off a cliff! Just more mammals mistakenly thinking they can master and harness energy (such as electricity or food) from a specific fluid environment that they scarcely even understand, like the La Brea Tar Pits. Woops, I guess we mis-underestimated the challenge of this fluid environment! We didn’t even know it WAS a fluid environment! We just thought it was all about renderings and websites!
You’re both too tightly wound to think. Breathe, or take a vacation.
Wood is a good and cheap construction material you can use to make things, like towers. Some AWE concepts use towers, or could use wood elsewhere.
That’s the initial shower thought. Everyone has those and we don’t need to clutter the forum with them. Now you would do napkin math. You can do that in Slow Chat together with Doug, or in private. Once you’ve worked it out more, you can make a topic.
This applies to you because you start so many topics. Others don’t start so many topics so it doesn’t matter as much.
This is not an argument.
In that case you should have explicitly mentioned Crosswind Kite Power with Tower - Engineering / System Design - AWESystems Forum, but you did not. So your topic was not in the field of AWE.
By analogous reasoning, one could say that such a shape (for example, a hexagon) is good in a domain other than AWE, and then argue that there are AWES for which this shape is useful for a particular component.
One could continue indefinitely by talking about things that have absolutely nothing to do with AWE, arguing a posteriori that they might be good for AWE.
No. The initial thought was:
I think you should answer Doug’s question about wooden towers for wind turbines (the content in your topic), like this one:
I’ve silenced @dougselsam and @PierreB for 3 and 2 months.
Too much noise and too little actual analysis on AWE in the case of Doug.
Too many unserious ideas posted for Pierre, none developed or analysed to any useful depth, and quickly abandoned. The number of topics is a problem. Limit yourself in the number of topics you start and limit necroposting – in mostly unrelated topics. I put my ideas mostly in this topic for example. You should start a megathread for your ideas.
They are posting an order of magnitude more than the rest of the forum combined, while not being the intended audience of the forum. With that the forum becomes sometimes else than was intended.
We started this forum as a meeting place to explore and develop the field of Airborne Wind Energy (AWE).
An unserious idea would be one that could for example be discarded by comparing it to alternatives with napkin math, or just by thinking about it for a few minutes, and that doesn’t explain why this idea would, all things considered, be better than the alternatives.
A useful depth would be an attempt to think of all relevant forces and try to calculate them, napkin math to come to a potential LCOE based on a plausible bill of materials, and comparison to alternatives. That way a potential commenter wouldn’t need to do all your homework for you and can just point out mistakes and give pointers.
Or a useful depth in an otherwise unserious topic could be where the reader can learn something. If an idea depends on a rope drive for example, you could go deep into researching the characteristics of those, or try to actually design one and look at what challenges you encounter. IIRC you do try that sometimes.
There are probably other ways to deal with this than a 2-month silence period. The initiative to come up with those would need to come from you.
A 2-month ban without a warning isn’t appropriate, sorry. I’ll remove it.
