Questions about Moderation

I’m conflicted @kitefreak. I’m tempted to set your user level to 1. Normally I would just Be Bold and do that – someone else is of course free to do it instead. Now I will wait a while. I’ll reject posts that include comments on moderation in topics other than this in the meantime.

AWES Forum Moderation seemingly has no idea how destructive its heavy-handed censorship is. Many top folks will never bother posting because they know Windy Skies is an unaccountable “anonymous authority” with no domain expertise.

Oh, so the forum is important now.
Glad you see it that way.
Treat it like it is please.
We all do.
All moderators have had skin in the game longer than most folk in AWES.
(At AWEC there was a show of hands for first timers >50% attending)

I should mention that me and Kitemills CEO have been receiving «evil» emails from @kitefreak putting down myself in front of the CEO and Kitemill in front of a whole slew of people. Even though myself and many others on that list have requested to not reveive such solicitation. So in my opinion there is no improvement in this matter, and for me I no longer have any interest to communicate with @kitefreak in any format. I will not say he is not welcome in the forum. I have blocked the user so I dont see any if it. But I think this is relevant information. I will share the emails if @kitefreak wishes so.

By the way I would not know any of this unless Thomas made me aware, as this goes straight to my spam folder.

Noted.
Similarly I have seen a slew of unpleasant accusations of impropriety being thrown around by @kitefreak

@kitefreak , I think that your Advanced Kite Networks would deserve a more thorough investigation. For this I suggest you avoid arguing with everyone for at least the duration of the investigation, which we can expect to see a prototype.

So I will open a topic for it.

I am accountable to every potential visitor to this forum. If I moderate a comment, I do it according to a relaxed interpretation of the spirit of the FAQ or the /r/AskEngineers guidelines. An appeal would need to reference either of those, and be made here.

Since you now have done the same thing again for which you were suspended, I’ll have to suspend you again. I’ll give you until Sunday for no more than three appeals, in this thread. An apology would be nice and a promise to in the future Wikipedia:Assume good faith - Wikipedia and be better mandatory. After that I’ll likely give you a maximum 6 month suspension if you made a good appeal, or a minimum 1 year suspension if you haven’t.

I cannot even reply to current technical questions (posed by a Moderator) on my topics under a 3-reply limit.

Windy Skies is not accountable to anyone acting behind a mask of anonymous authority. There is no fair appeal possible of his conduct.

Tallak and Rod Read and their affiliations (KiteMill, AWEurope, TUDelft, etc.) are being held accountable, because they are publicly known.

The question is whether the AWE forum can do without the contribution of Dave Santos, who alone represents the school of the kite generating by its own right in passive way, without or with few other elements apart the ground generator.

In most other moderated forums Dave would have been permanently banned several times over already. I haven’t done that because I think the problem is that of a mindset, which one assumes can be changed, and because Dave is obviously invested in the subject. This is likely the last chance to avoid a lengthy ban here - which still could be appealed during the ban by sending an appeal to the moderators.

The hurdle should be a small one: promise not to do the utterly stupid things which you are being banned for now, and, yes, this forum is moderated. Get over yourself.

Absolutely agree.

We’re a small community with a strong common goal.
We all try our best.
Good principles for engagement have been set out.
We agreed to and do follow them because they suit everyone’s purpose.

No good comes from grandiose accusations in bad faith.

Humility and compassionate communication help us to learn from each others experiences and gain insights on our own practices.

The forum has to be a safe place for anyone interested in developing AWES.

Rod,

This is a “safe place” for Windy Skies to censor sadistically. It’s no safe place for anyone like me to share AWE knowledge. The most qualified folks in AWE mostly stay away. The Old Forum never banned anyone, except once when you tried it, and you were shut down.

I have been unjustly banned here many times now, up to a year and a half at a time, by a creepy stranger and his enablers. Moderators are the bad guys here, not me. The real person hiding behind the Windy Skies sock-puppet may continue to slow down or stop technical contributions but cannot censor without due victim resistance.

Who is this sadistic Moderation-Troll, Windy Skies? An underage child? A mentally ill person? A criminal? A hostile state-actor disrupting us? It must be a troubled soul, or a mask would not fit. Windy Skies has no respectable standing nor expertise in AWE R&D. He never earned his Trust Level under Discourse Guidelines. The creator of Discourse, Jeff Atwood himself, wrote me such a Troll will abuse his forumware as long as allowed by the site holder and fellow moderators.

It is a basic human right to be allowed to face one’s accuser, especially to face down a coward like Windy abusing anonymous authority. A vicious persecutor cowering behind a mask violates a sacred ancient principle of justice as documented below:

  • Acts 25:16 ESV “not the custom of the Romans to give up anyone before the accused met the accusers face to face and had opportunity to make his defense”

  • Magna Carta 1215: codified right to face accuser

  • Dershowitz (Harvard Law): ““core right” to confront accuser”

  • Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: “accused shall enjoy the right … to confront witnesses against him".

I will never submit to Windy Skies.

Far better to email folks directly with my AWE information than bend under creepy abuse here. AWEurope, W&I, and KiteMill are to blame for tolerating Windy Skies. Such complaint will increase as long as Windy continues screwing up this AWES Forum. It’s also a lie here that the old Forum ever censored. Censorship here is not justified by any such lie.

Let this Forum yet again miss key AWE news and information because of notorious AWE Moderation malpractice prevailing. Let Windy-Luke forever reflect badly on you and Tallak, as willing enablers. I did nothing here to deserve such corrupt Moderation. The AWE Community deserves better.

Being banned is far better than waiting for public posting approval by an unqualified stranger claiming the highest possible Discourse Trust Level.

Let Doug be the loudest voice on the hollowed-out AWES Forum, for lack of true open knowledge Moderation.

This sort of ongoing R&D content is best shared elsewhere, where no censor has sway.

SpiderMill-X1-maiden

Going back on my word which said by now I would already have suspended @kitefreak, but if by Sunday no good appeal is submitted I will go ahead and suspend them for the longer period I talked about earlier.

That will likely be removed after a good appeal or possibly after some time not doing the things you are being suspended for.

The “word” of this anonymous non-authority in AWE is already known worthless.

There is so much going on in AWE that this Forum now misses. It’s no loss to communicate technical news elsewhere. I will persist opposing AWES Forum censorship by complaining directly to known responsible parties involved- KiteMill (ThomasH), AWEurope (KristianP, JonG), and TUDelft (RolandS); as laid out to EU Commission, IEA Secretariat, and US DOE IG/GAO regulators, now better informed than poor Forum readers fed on pop links and quibbles-with-Doug.

Censorship is toxic to censors, a self-inflicted poison.

@kitefreak
Dave, you are wasting your time complaining on the forum. Develop your advanced kite networks. The current AWE wave is coming to an end. One project after another fails. While there’s still time, try making a small prototype.

PS: Doug is not particularly favored in this forum judging by the level of trust placed in him. Yet his analyzes are often right even if they are not politically correct.

Pierre,

I am developing Kite Networks. Complaining about Forum censorship is no waste of time, but an ethical duty.

Let Doug be right or wrong, trusted or not, this Forum still falls short.

Where do you think this comment thread should go? And does it even matter? The Pyramid - #27 by Windy_Skies Where it is now in The Pyramid, in Bladetips Energy where I put it originally, or somewhere else like Low radius loop - #59 by PierreB?

I moved it away from the Bladetips Energy topic because the discussion was not on the company, or is it?

@Rodread asks in reference to this comment: Slow Chat - #401 by dougselsam which was originally below this comment: https://forum.awesystems.info/t/kite-altitude-record-and-how-it-was-attained/2139/8

I moved 4 comments starting with that one as I felt that chain was off-topic. That comment derailed the conversation to be about SkySails. So I started there. You could argue that @PierreB’s comment before that started that, but that comment wasn’t a short wall of text so it was less distracting to someone wanting to read about kite trains.

The SkySails comments in italics below I felt to be completely off topic. The stuff not in italics is still off topic, but has some value, but he already made the same or similar points before in the topic, and elsewhere.

The part I bolded is on topic I think. But it doesn’t address how torque transfer could or could not reach 10 kilometers, which is what this topic seems to be partially about.

Dave Santos is no advocate of torque transmission. He’s been quite vocal against it’s altitude scaling potential.
The post seems to have no connection to torque transmission.

Fair enough though
I see now it was a thread on altitude which had drifted off to Doug slating Skysails erroneously.
I should have contributed more than lower my standards
